The Harold Hunter Foundation (HHF), in association with primary sponsors Zoo York, Vans, HBO andCamp Woodward, is proud to announce the 5th Annual Harold Hunter Day will take place Saturday,November 12, 2011, at the L.E.S. Skatepark in New York City.
Established in 2006 after Harold’s untimely passing, and managed by the non-profit Harold Hunter Foundation, Harold Hunter Day V will once again unite NYC’s tight-knit skate community for a positive day of skateboarding, camaraderie and remembrance.
Harold Hunter was a legendary New Yorker with a larger-than-life personality and altruistic nature that enabled him to touch the lives of countless people around the world. Each year HH Day commemorates a life well lived by celebrating the things Harold loved most – skateboarding, music, friends, family, and of course, New York City.
“I look forward to celebrating five years of remembering Harold’s life at this year’s HH Day,” says Steve Rodriguez, 5boro Skateboards Founder and Harold Hunter Foundation Board Member. “Ever since I participated in my first HHF project years ago, I knew it was an organization I wanted to continue working with. The impact that the HHF has on the kids involved is simply too great to not be a part of it.”
On Saturday afternoon, November 12th, Harold Hunter Day V will kick off at the L.E.S Skatepark on the corner of Pike and Monroe Streets under the Manhattan Bridge in Chinatown. An all-ages skate jam will run from 1:00–5:00pm and feature product giveaways, appearances by pro skateboarders, live music from DJ Smoke L.E.S., and pop-up “Best Trick” contests with prizes including a one-year supply of *Zoo York apparel and other gear from event sponsors.
Immediately following the skate jam, an after-party will be held at Max Fish located at 178 Ludlow Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The gathering will be open to the public (21+ only) with live beats provided by DJ Smoke L.E.S. and friends.
As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Harold Hunter Foundation relies on support from the skate community and related affiliates to achieve its mission of using skateboarding as a vehicle to provide inner-city youth with valuable life experiences that nurture individual creativity, resourcefulness and the development of life skills.
With this principal goal in mind, a limited edition Harold Hunter Day V t-shirt designed by Mark Nardelli from 5boro, and a skateboard deck crafted by Sam Wilson from With A Mouse Design, will be sold at the event with proceeds benefiting the Harold Hunter Foundation. Both items will also be available post-event at select New York skateshops.
Harold Hunter Day V is made possible through generous support from event sponsors Zoo York, Vans,HBO, Camp Woodward, Supreme, Cottonmouth, ProSport Wellness, SHUT, Paradox, BONES Wheels,Bones Bearings, With A Mouse Design, Prographix, The Professionals: NYC Sound Company, and the collective New York City skateboard community.
